So Close!

Got a new half-marathon PR today at the Lehigh Valley Half. Yay me!

However, the sub-2:00 remains elusive. My time: 2:00:06.

The good news is I maintained a fairly steady pace throughout the entire 13.1 miles. My halfway split was 59:32. The last half had me calling upon every ounce of my physical and mental fortitude as I felt the 2:00 Garmin pace group breathing down my neck. About 25 yards from the finish line I saw I had 10 seconds to hit 1:59:59 and ran like a bank robber.

The bad news is... actually there is no bad news! I am tremendously proud of myself. I worked hard for this, both in training and on the course. I never gave up. I ran at my limit. I couldn't have given more today. It is a nearly 5-minute PR on this particular (challenging) course and a 50-second PR over my time at the crazy-flat Philly Distance Run this past September, and I had the same frustrating knee pain starting at around mile 5 as I did at PDR. This time I held it off and didn't let it slow me down.

I have never worked so hard in a race and it's incredibly gratifying to see results like this. Thank you coaches!

18 of you had something to say:

  3. Woohoo! I like that you not only set a PR, but you're smart enough to be proud of yourself. So many of us torture ourselves with "I should have...". Great job!

  4. Congratulations on an awesome time and your PR!
Kudos to you for being "happy" with your results knowing you gave it your all. So many still rant and rave over a few seconds of time. In life, yes, seconds are precious. In a race, they are just seconds. IMO!

  11. I am originally from the area. And my parents are still there, so I have free lodging when I do finally make it up to the LV half ;)

  14. Hey Leah, I have a question. Can you recommend any bike shops in your area? My mom is dying for a bike, but she's currently looking at L.L. Bean (where they still cost $300)! I'm in town this weekend and hoping to take her out bike shopping for mother's day. Thanks!

  16. Oh so close! Do you ask yourself where you could have saved those seconds? Well done! I bet the sub 2:00 time is not at all far away. :-)
